SSB Interview Process

SSB Interview Procedure: The selection of officers in the Armed forces is a vital and challenging task, which involves seeking convergence between the organizational needs and aspirations of our youth seeking a career in the Armed forces. The system of selection entails an in-depth assessment of those basic qualities in a candidate that the officers are expected to possess to be entrusted with the responsibility of human lives and all other resources that a nation can provide. It also takes into consideration the fact that, depending upon nature and nurture, personalities may change. Also, the absence of a particular trait may not be an irreversible flaw, because traits can be either or improved upon by conscious effort or training.  Process of selection is scientifically designed to assess individual personality which is explained as under –



   Day Arrival/Reporting
  •  Checking of documents to verify age/educational certificates.
  • Allotment of Boards and chest numbers for testing.
  •  Introductory talk by duty officer which includes administrating details, security instructions, DOs and DONTs and code of conduct at Selection Centre.

DAY –I (STAGE – I/Screening Test)

  • Officer Intelligence Rating Testing (OIR) –
  • Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT).
  • Group Discussion

DAY–2(STAGE–II) Psychological Testing

  • Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)
  • Word Association Test (WAT)
  • Situation Reaction Test (SRT)
  • Self-Description Test

DAY–3 (Group Testing Officer Tasks – 1)

  • Group Discussion
  • Group Planning Exercise
  • Progressive Group Task
  • Group Obstacle Race
  • Half Group Tasks
  • Lecturette
  • Interview (conducted in the afternoon)

DAY–4 (Group Testing officers Tasks – 2)

  • Individual Obstacles
  • Command Task
  • Final Group Task
  • Interview (conducted in the afternoon)


  • Closing address
  • Conference
  • Announcement of results
  • Dispersal
