SSB Process: Know the SSB Criteria to assess SSB OLQs
SSB Process: SSB process looks for overall personality, physical and mental strength. Effective SSB Coaching or SSB training helps the candidate in expressing his qualities through various techniques. To face SSB NDA, SSB AFCAT, SSB for Army, Air force, Navy and Coast Guard, criteria followed mainly involves assessing the under mentioned qualities –
- Intellectual Abilities – Aspirants must possess adequate grasp and imagination to understand, interpret and appreciate situations, must be able to find solutions to mundane as well as difficult problems, should be able to give right priorities and arrange things systematically to achieve desired results. The candidate should have clarity of thoughts to convey the ideas in a lucid and precise manner, both verbally and in writing. It follows that a candidate should be able to articulate his ideas in a logical manner and must be curious in nature to gain knowledge and experience.
- Social Behaviour – During the entire career, you would be working in contact with human beings. As a part of the job, one must be willing to work with different sets of people and frequently move to various new locations. Adequate social and emotional intelligence to get along with people and adjust in a new environment is needed too. Looking after the security of a nation requires teamwork, therefore one should be keen to work in a group. A friendly nature is not only desirable but considered essential. Possessing a helpful attitude and a sense of obligation to perform a given task should part of one’s personality. During the entire service, you would lead or work with human beings. Suitability to fit into a team is one of the key aspects of a leader.
- Leadership Attributes – Candidates should be able to come forward with new ideas and suggest ways and means to resolve issues/problems. The leading group would not be feasible unless the candidate is sure of him and nurses a keen desire to achieve reasonably high-level goals. One should have a goal-oriented outlook with an open-minded approach while receiving the inputs to enable quick decisions. Defense officers are expected to perform in stressful situations and maintain a cheerful disposition. In a leadership position, one must lead from the front and take along his entire team to the destination.
- Mental, Physical Robustness – Officer must maintain reasonably good mental and physical health. Having an interest in outdoor activity sports/other physical activity remains a desirable pursuit. Ability to work for a long duration, yet keeping physical and mental strength is important. One should be exceptionally focussed and consciously avoid distractions. Finally to go on a war against an enemy or to face a bunch of terrorists, one has to take a certain amount of risk that needs both mental and physical courage. Since we all have inner fears, one must acquire an attitude to overcome the fear factor
